Orange County Slab Leak Detection For Homeowners

Slab Leak Detection

If you think you have a slab leak in your home there are a few things you can do yourself to determine if you have a leak and where the slab leak is.
First thing you can do is check the city water meter in front of your house. Make sure all the water in your home is turned off then go out to the meter and take the cover off the meter but be warned that there will be spiders, after you get the cover off the meter there should be a lid you can flip up on top of the meter, once the meter lid is open what you want to look for is a small red triangle. If the triangle is spinning then there is water leaking some where in your home or main line.(Note this method will not work if there is a shower valve or a faucet leaking in your home.)
Another way to tell is if you can hear water running through the pipes even when everything in the house is turned off including the sprinklers. If you hear the sound of running water behind your walls you most likely have a leak.
To locate the leak you can feel the floor for any moisture or unusual hot or cold spots. If the slab leak is on the hot water pipe the floor will feel hot if its on the cold the floor will feel cold. One way to do this quickly is to walk the house bare foot to locate the moisture and hot or cold spots.
